Are you safe in Chicago? Whether you are a tourist or a resident of Chicago, this app can be a useful tool for you.

Chicago City Crime displays crimes near your location, assuming you are within Chicago city limits. There is no universal definition of what is safe, as something considered safe by one individual could be considered unsafe by another. That's why Chicago City Crime allows you to choose your own criteria when you search for crimes.

Once you define the parameters, Chicago City Crime searches for crimes from the Chicago Police Department's CLEAR system based on your parameters and displays the results to you. You can then analyze the numbers to determine whether your location is safe or not.

www.chicagocitycrime.com has been taken down and discontinued

  • Uses your phone's GPS to get your location
  • Searches for crimes near you
  • Configurable - crime categories, search radius, and date range
  • Displays results in a pie chart
Planned future features
  • Unsure at this point in time.

Version 1.0 was released in the Android Market on September 15th, 2011

Keep Up With The Flu is two applications in one. The first part is an Android home screen widget that keeps you informed about flu activity in your area. Using the GPS capabilities of your Android device, Keep Up With The Flu automatically checks the CDC flu reports for updates wherever you are. In order to create a widget, you must long press an empty 2x1 area on one of your home screens, select Widgets, then Keep Up With The Flu. Once you create the widget, you may also launch the news reader and configuration options by clicking anywhere within the widget area.

The second part of the application is a useful news and feed reader that connects the user to the CDC's flu resources. Users can view news and updates, twitter feeds, podcasts and videos from the CDC.

In addition, you can also configure the widget from the news reader screen. This includes disabling notifications or only receiving notifications if the flu report is different than the previous report in your area. You may also choose to manually refresh the widget from this screen.

Note - this app is no longer maintained

Current features
  • Widget displays current flu reports from the CDC, for your current location. Widget can be configured to display notifications in your status bar depending on certain conditions.
